“A study to assess the effectiveness of video assisted demonstration on knowledge regarding ABG analysis among ANM aspirants in selected college Kanpur Uttar Pradesh”

Abstract

Arterial blood gas are an important routine investigation to monitor the acid base imbalance of the patient. They may help to make diagnosis, indicate the severity of conditions and help to assess treatment. Blood for ABG analysis can be obtained by arterial puncture usually from radial and femoral artery. Bicarbonate helps in maintaining blood ph value. Kidney and lungs work in our body as compensatory mechanism .This study aims at understanding the views of ANM aspirants towards ABG analysis use to inform an intervention whose objectives is to improve ABG use among the ANM aspirants. PROBLEM STATEMENT A STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF VIDEO ASSISTED DEMONSTARTION ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING ABG ANALYSIS AMONG ANM ASPIRANTS IN SELECTED COLLEGE KANPUR UTTAR PRADESH. OBJECTIVES 1. To assess the pre- test level of knowledge regarding ABG analysis among ANM aspirants. 2. To evaluate the effectiveness of video assisted demonstration on knowledge regarding ABG analysis among ANM aspirants at selected college in Kanpur. 3. To determine the association between the pre-test knowledge regarding ABG analysis among ANM aspirants with their socio- demographic variables. METHOD The study was quasi-experimental research design.Setting of the study was conducted at selected Comminity Health Centers (CHCs) of Kanpur.The sample size was 60 antenatal mothers from selected Community Health Centers (CHCs).Sampling technique quasi-experimental convenience sampling technique. Consent was taken from before Data collection. RESULT The study showed that among 60 ANM aspirants 30 (50%) had inadequate knowledge and 27 (45%) had moderate knowledge and 3 (5%) had adequate knowledge while in post-test 02 (3.33%) had inadequate knowledge, 50 (83.33%) had moderate knowledge and 8 (13.33%) had adequate knowledge. It was inferred that, most of the ANM aspirants had inadequate to moderate knowledge levels in pre-test and in post-test most of the ANM aspirants acquired moderate knowledge CONCLUSION The finding of study revealed that there was significant association of knowledge with selected demographic variables such as age, religion, gender, family , previous knowledge, source of information.
