Saliva has become an attractive non-invasive biofluid source for the early diagnosis of systemic diseases. It reflects the physiological and pathological conditions of the body and its composition, rich in proteins, enzymes, antibodies, nucleic acids, and metabolites. The review covers the possibilities of salivary biomarkers in diagnosing and managing diseases like diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, cancers, autoimmune diseases, and infections.
